Still Openings in TWICE ASK Sessions

There are still openings in the TWICE ASK Sessions and we want to fill them! So check out the online schedule with the available slots and sign up!

We’ve also adjusted some of the books for Janie Panagopoulos since the Journey Back to Lumberjack Camp slots are filling so fast.  So check again and see the new times for that book.

For those of you new to the ASK process, here’s a little overview.

ASK (“Authors Specialist and Knowledge”) is an organized process that provides students with the opportunity to interview an author or a subject specialist in the topic they are reading about in a novel. The program uses excellent literature, journal writing and interviewing to promote reading for understanding.

We hope you can join us for an ASK session this year! Non-members welcome!!

Renew Your Membership!

It’s time to renew your membership! TWICE memberships are same as last year, just $200.  TWICE – Two Way Interactive Connections in Education was created through the efforts of many ISD/RESA coordinators across the state and is endorsed by the MAISA Technology Committee. When an ISD/RESA joins, all the local districts and schools served by that ISD/RESA are members as well and are able to take advantage of all the benefits provided by TWICE.

As a TWICE member, your ISD/RESA and the districts you serve can enjoy such benefits as:

  • An extensive database of virtual Field Trip programs that correlate with curriculum standards and discounted prices for videoconference programs from COSI Toledo and COSI Columbus (the Centers of Science and Industry), Cleveland Institute of Music, the Cleveland Museum of Art and Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota, Florida.
  • Coordination, support, and design of collaborative classroom-to-classroom Projects, like “Read Around the Planet” (formerly known as Read Across America) “Project ASK,” and “Michigan Week Connections.”
  • CAP – Collaborations Around the Planet is a new social networking tool for educational videoconferencing that was launched this fall.
  • Two-way interactive video Technical Support and information.
  • Resources for schools interested in Shared Classes
  • Coordination, sharing, and promotion of Professional Development programs and workshops for teachers and staff.
  • A listserv connecting you to others interested in videoconferencing programs and collaborative opportunities.
  • A new blog to share information with TWICE members on videoconferencing projects, articles, and experiences.

Visit our web page for information about all our activities and other videoconferencing resources.

We hope your ISD/RESA will renew its membership to TWICE and help us carry out our mission “to promote and support collaborative connections using two-way interactive video for the benefit of Michigan students.” To join, just fill in this membership form and send it along with your check to the address at the bottom of the form.

Collaborations Around the Planet

It’s time to start networking with videoconferencing colleagues for projects and events this school year. Start your year off by registering for TWICE’s new Collaborations Around the Planet. “The more people you know, the more videoconferences you can do!”

Collaborations Around the Planet is a large scale global directory and professional network of educators for videoconferencing project collaboration. TWICE, in partnership with Polycom, created this tool on the new registration database for Read Around the Planet. TWICE is Michigan’s K12 videoconference organization.

While the site is hosted by TWICE, the tool is open to and designed for all educators using videoconferencing, just like Read Around the Planet.

There are two URLs for the website:
http://projects.twice.cc/
www.polycom.com/education/PCATP

Register for a new account. Or, if you participated in Read Around the Planet 2007, use the Forgot Password link to reactivate your account. Add websites to your profile, a picture of yourself, and click My Projects to check off big videoconference events you’ve participated in to receive badges & stars next to your name. Search to find friends and build your videoconferencing network.

Come November, you’ll use this same collaboration tool to manage your participation in Read Around the Planet. As most of you know, RAP is TWICE’s signature event, celebrating reading by connecting classes around the planet.

Share this flyer with your local videoconference coordinators and interested teachers.
