Read Around the Planet registration seems to be coming along nicely, now that all three types of teacher registration are up and running. You might be interested in a few numbers.

Read Around the Planet numbers

• Teacher match request registrations: 216 (as of 9:50 EST Dec. 21).
• Pieces of Equipment: 545 (of which 281 are verified). This number worries us a bit. Make sure that you’ve finished the Verification Steps so your equipment is listed as “Ready to be Verified”. This is how you request verification this year. “Ready to be Verified” means it’s on our todo list.

Collaborations Around the Planet numbers

• New accounts in CAPspace since Sept. 10: 601
• Friend Relationships Confirmed: 299
• Friend Relationships Pending: 401 (check the Home page in CAPspace and see if someone wants to be your friend)

Tools Coming in January
Early in January, there are a few other pieces we hope to have in place.

1. Coordinators registering on behalf of someone else: you will need to attach those registrations to the right equipment so that the match happens properly. Look for this tool soon.
2. Reviewing your match requests. Right now you can review all the requests under My Projects, Read Around the Planet. We hope to also allow you to see your half of the detailed match list so you can do one final check.

Deadlines

• Verification is the real rush right now! Make sure that you’ve finished the Verification Steps so your equipment is listed as “Ready to be Verified”. We need to finish verification by January 11 so there is time for you to finish registration. So hurry to finish entering your equipment.
• January 16 is the drop dead deadline for teacher registration. After that we’ll deal with leftovers. So collect those teacher registrations so you can enter them fast after verification is done.

There are three ways that teacher registration can happen for Read Around the Planet after your equipment is verified.

Verification Reminder
Just a reminder also that coordinators and/or techs need to Add Your Equipment for Verification. When your equipment is listed as “Ready to Be Verified” you have requested verification and you’re on our todo list. You should hear from your assigned verifier within a few days. If you have trouble with the verification process, please contact Janine Lim at jlim@remc11.k12.mi.us or (269) 471-7725×101. Take care of verification as soon as you can!

Teacher Registration
After verification is done, there are three ways teacher registration can happen. Click My Projects, Read Around the Planet, Register as shown.

Now there are three ways registration could happen.

1. Teachers have their own account and register for themselves. You can find it under My Projects. See also this post on what has to be in place for this to work. This is what teachers will see when they click Register.
   
2. Coordinators register for teachers who are under “My People.” You check the name of the participating teacher from the list on the same section where you’re registering. Review what needs to be in place before you register for your teachers. When you click Register, you’ll see the names to check off as shown.
   
3. Coordinators register for teachers who don’t have an account. Just write the teacher name, email & phone in the match request as shown. Review what needs to be in place before you register for your teachers.
   

Note also that we have extended teacher registration through January 16. This should relieve some pressure so you can enjoy your holiday!

The second type of registration for Read Around the Planet is ready now. Coordinators, you can now see registrations requested by “your people” under you as well.

Now we’re just waiting for the third type of registration, which is coordinators registering for people who don’t have an account. By far this is what most of you need. So hang tight! It’s coming soon!

3. Coordinators register for teachers who don’t have an account. This will be ready last. You’ll be able to just write the teacher name, email & phone in the match request. In the meantime, review what needs to be in place before you register for your teachers.

Teacher registration for Read Around the Planet has been pushed back to December 10. Sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience. In the meantime, double check these lists!

If your teachers are registering themselves

• The videoconference equipment needs to be entered, tech contacts added, and verified.
• Your teachers need to create/login to their accounts.
• The teachers need to be “attached” to the verified equipment they will use for RAP. Coordinators, go to Admin, My Equipment, click the endpoint’s name, click “Attach End Users”. (This pulls a list of names from “My People”, so if they aren’t listed under “My People”, you’ll need to add them there first.)

If you are registering for your teachers

• The videoconference equipment needs to be entered, tech contacts added, and verified.
• You should have a list of your registrations with:
  • teacher’s name, email, and phone number
  • grade level
  • language they want the connection in (English is the default)
  • all the dates and times they can do February 25 through March 4: click here to see how times affect matching probability
• A note on matching: The system will make sure that only one videoconference is scheduled for each endpoint. You will have a better chance of not ending up in the “leftover” pile if you select all the times you can actually do and let the computer matching program pick your actual time. This is especially true for those buildings who schedule a session every hour for the full event.

Once you have these steps done, then you’re ready for teacher registration as soon as it opens! Thanks for your patience!
